Connect Your Existing Domain to Weebly

The domain mapping instruction of Weebly is pretty straightforward so I would say that connecting your existing domain to Weebly is relatively easy compared to other web host providers.

But just like any other web host providers, there are two things to accomplish to fully integrate a 3rd-party domain to your Weebly site.

The first one is to add your domain as the Site Address in Weebly and the second is to point your domain to the IP address assigned to your site(we’ll get there in a bit).

Note: Just like other web host providers such as Wix, Squarespace and Shopify, you need to have a paid hosting plan to be able to connect your domain name to Weebly.

Part 1. Add your existing domain to Weebly

  1. Login to your Weebly.com account
  2. Select the website you wish to link to your domain.
  3. Click the Settings tab at the top
  4. Under General > Site address click the Change button.

Weebly Site Settings

  1. Click the Connect or transfer now link below the search field.

  1. Enter your domain name.
  2. Click the Connect your domain option.

You’ll be shown two options for making the necessary DNS changes to your domain: One for doing it yourself, and one for emailing your domain host for assistance.

Choose one of these options and follow the steps to get your DNS records updated to point to the provided IP address.

Don’t forget to publish your website to the new site address when the process is complete.

Part 2. Point Your Domain to The IP address provided by Weebly

This part varies depending who’s the DNS provider of your domain name, but the bottom line is, you must point the naked domain @, subdomain www and wildcard * to the same Weebly IP address.

Please note that it can take 24 to 48 hours for the DNS changes to propagate. That means your site may not work immediately after updating the DNS records, but rest assured that you’ll be up and running shortly as long as the DNS changes were made correctly.

Connect a Google Domain to Weebly

There are two ways to connect your Google Domains domain to Weebly. The first one is by easy-connect feature and the second is by manually adding DNS records or name servers.

Easy-connect feature:

This Google Domains easy integration process will only work if the domain name and Wix website are registered under the same Google account.

If not, you may need to use Google Domain permission feature to share the domain management to same account where the Wix website was created from and start the integration from that account.

Once you’re logged in to the same Google account you used through Wix, you may proceed with the steps below.

  1. Open Google Domains.
  2. Click the domain name you want to manage.
  3. Open the Menu.
  4. Click Website and then Build website.
  5. Click See all options.
  6. Under Weebly click Continue.
  7. Click Sign in to existing account.
    • If you have more than one Google account in browser session, you will be prompted to select your Google account. Select the owner account of your domain.
  8. Click Accept if Weebly asks permission to view your Google account information.
  9. In the next screen titled Link Weebly Account, log in with your Weebly account.
    • The email address and password at this step is not the same as your Google Domains account. Use your existing Weebly account to log in.
  10. Click Accept if Weebly asks permission to manage your Google domain resource records.
  11. Choose Connect an Existing Site.
  12. Pick your site from the drop down list, click Connect Site to continue.
  13. To verify your domain is linked, open Weebly site editor, go to Setting | General and view Site Address. If not, click Change to set your domain name.
  14. Test your domain address in a browser. If the domain URL loads successfully, Congratulations! You’ve successfully connected your domain.

Manual integration:

To create an A record, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to Google Domains.
  2. Click the domain you want to update.
  3. Open the menu Menu.
  4. Click the DNS icon .
  5. Scroll to the Custom resource records section. Set the custom resource record type your web host requires.
  6. To create a specific type of record, follow these steps:
  7. For an A record, use these values:
      1. In the first field, enter “@”.
      2. In the dropdown menu, select A.
      3. In the TTL field, enter “1H.”
      4. In the data field, enter the “Weebly IP address”.
      5. Click Add.

Don’t forget to add your domain through Weebly and publish it if you haven’t done so yet.

Note: All DNS changes may take 24 – 48 hours to fully take effect across the entire internet.
